The Fascination of Colour, Surface and Pattern
20180512 - 20180731
Katie Tattersdill is an abstract artist who graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2014. Her expressive paintings explore colour, surface and non-linear patterns, playfully transforming biological forms and everyday items into new, sometimes unrecognisable forms on canvas.
Katie uses a variety of painting mediums to bring her work to life, including acrylics, oils and inks and has a large body of sketchbook work and experimental studies. There is a surreal element to the paintings; faces, animals and familiar forms sometimes popping out of otherwise abstract works seeming to grow and warp out of the canvas. Larger than life colours inspired by fashion, book covers and pulpy science-fiction also make their way into the work.
Katie strives to make work that is accessible to a wide variety of audiences, working in a meditative way and exploring psychology and thought processes by continually reforming and abstracting visual ideas. To mirror the activity of a busy mind, Katie often uses circular forms to represent thoughts, and builds them up into colourful, bubbling, foam-like surfaces.
Katie develops her artworks at Cornforth Studios in Newbury, and aims to expand her art practice locally and further afield, collaborating with other artists and pursuing further opportunities to study and grow.
